Outdoor Cabana & Patio Retrofit

I took on a small renovation project for my small NYC backyard.

I’m fortunate enough to attend The Cooper Union which turns an ivy league level education into a state school tuition price (it’s like driving a Rolls Royce for the price of a Prius). The tuition savings are incredible. This affords me the ability to rent an apartment in NYC. I love home renovation projects so I decided to go for a cabana style setup with some string lights.

Here are a couple before pictures.

I made a small model in OnShape before I went ahead and added the cabana tarps just to get a better visual for what I was imagining. Below is an interactive model (orbit + zoom).

And this is what the final result looks like.

My phone camera just doesn't do a good job capturing the mood lighting that the string lights create at night, but let me tell you those lights are the best purchase I've made in 2023.
